An unplanned expat blogger behind MildRiverCanvas

Hello, I am Isabel
Project manager. A parent. An expat living in Madrid, Spain.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Relocating to Spain wasn't in our long-term plan. As with many expatriate moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far beyond.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Routine tasks seemed more challenging than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the go. But gradually, routines formed. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began creating something steady.
Why I Built MildRiverCanvas
Most information online hovered between corporate relocation tips and shallow travel material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Spain.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical knowledge from life in Spain
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Refreshed when a genuine change occurs
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Spain continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information is useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Isabel
